Eric Gauthier studierte in seiner Geburtsstadt Montreal sowie in Toronto Tanz und trat 1996 mit 19 Jahren der Compagnie des Stuttgarter Balletts bei, wo er 2002 zum Solotänzer ernannt wurde. Zwei Jahre nach seinem Debüt als Choreograf gründete der Kanadier 2007 die „Gauthier Dance Company“, die sich alsbald als internationale Marke etablierte.
